While shopping for furniture, it can be difficult to know when you’ve found a high quality and durable product. You want to be sure that the furniture you purchase is a good investment that will last your family for years to come. With Mayo Furniture, you can rest assured that you will find quality and durability in their top-grade, furniture that is made only in America.

Founded in 1965, Mayo has been supplying Americans with superior upholstered furniture for almost 50 years. Their 156,000 sq. foot manufacturing plant in Texarkana, Texas produces fabric and leather sofas, loveseats, ottomans, sleepers, and chairs with some of the business’ most advanced technology.

We spoke to Patrick Mayo, of Mayo furniture, and he told us the story of Mayo furniture, and how it all began in 1965. His grandfather, known throughout the factory as Papaw, worked for machine shops before the war, so he was familiar with production.  Once he came back he worked for several furniture companies, moving his family to Texarkana, Texas. When the company he worked for closed, he decided to open his own store instead of moving his family again. He began producing furniture because it was something he knew he could make well. Mayo continues to make quality furniture in order to continue on Papaw’s legacy.

All of their upholsteries and fabrics undergo abrasion testing to ensure longevity, guaranteeing that their products will stand the test of time. They also recognize that every customer has their own unique style and taste, which is why the frames and fabrics of their furniture are fully customizable. There are approximately 500 different Mayo fabrics to choose from when customizing your piece. However, if none of these in-house fabrics suit your taste, Mayo also offers a Customer’s Own Material, or COM option. This means that they will allow you to cover your chosen Mayo frame with any fabric, even if it is brought in from another source. Patrick Mayo believes that the rise of social media sites, especially Pinterest, is helping to grow their custom business. “We offer custom because many people (60% of our business) want to make their own decorating decisions,” Patrick said of their choice to offer custom furniture options.

Because Mayo knows that style doesn’t have to sacrifice quality, they use state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques and components when constructing their product. Their frames are composed of 100% hard wood, which is cut with computer aided design systems by expert technicians. The springs of the seats are made of durable eight gauge wire. The cushions and arm tops of their sofas, loveseats, sleepers and chairs don’t only present a true aesthetic appeal, but they also offer optimal comfort with two pound, high-density polyurethane foam.

Today, it is common for furniture manufacturers to search for the lowest-quality building components so that they may make cheap furniture with a smaller price tag. This has never been Mayo’s philosophy; they are always looking for new ways to strengthen their products, rather than cheapen them. They hold a certain American pride in bettering themselves, and understandably so, seeing as all of their top-notch operations take place right here in the United States. Mayo has specifically kept their products American made because, as Patrick himself said, “Our product is more valuable because we do not have to compensate or cut corners for it to cross an ocean.” They believe in using American materials as well in their furniture, supporting other American companies.

Being Made in America not only offers higher quality options for Mayo, but it also allows them to eliminate much of the waste many other major furniture companies incur. Instead of having leftover furniture they need to sell in close out deals, Mayo produces all of their furniture to order, and making their furniture here in America means that orders don’t take as long as other companies who would have to ship the finished product overseas. They can have orders completed and ready for their customers within just a few days time, giving them a major advantage over other furniture companies.
