While the majority of Americans still have to gas up their vehicles to get around, Tesla Motors, Inc. (TSLA), is looking to make gas stations obsolete. The Palo Alto, California based company launched in 2003, and has since designed three electric, battery-powered and emission free vehicles.

Their first model was the Tesla Roadster, unveiled in 2008. Their second creation, the Model S, made history in 2013 as the first Motor Trend’s Car of the Year winner in 64 years to not have an internal combustible engine. Its newest addition, the Model X, is currently in production and available for reserve; it’s the company’s first SUV/van type vehicle.

The final assembly of the Tesla vehicles is done in their San Jose, California facility. Originally, essential parts to making the Tesla vehicle, like cobalt and granite needed to make the car’s batteries, were shipped in from the Philippines and Africa. But recently, according to Bloomberg, Tesla announced plans to build a 5 billion dollar U.S. battery factory with the intention of producing enough rechargeable batteries by 2020 to build 500,000 Tesla vehicles, in an effort to make electric cars affordable to the general public.

In addition to the rechargeable batteries available for each car with varying amounts of mileage, Tesla is also building Superchargers across California, and the rest of the U.S. for longer road trips, where electric cars can stop and recharge for free.

Tesla Motors, rooted in the American Silicone Valley dream, may be bring an greener, electric, made in America vehicle to your garage faster that you thought ever possible!
