For the first time in America’s car industry history, the country will produce Lexus cars on U.S. soil according to Atlanta Black Star. Toyota will begin producing Lexus ES 350 sedans at an existing car manufacturing plant in Kentucky.

Jim Lentz is the head of North America production for Toyota and he confirms that they will start making the luxury cars in Georgetown, KY, in 2015. The car company is investing $360 million to this project because Toyota believes this is a great opportunity to bring a spark back to the Lexus name.

This large investment by Toyota is great for the country because it will increase the car plant’s production from 55,000 vehicles per year to over 550,000 vehicles per year. Toyota is the world’s largest automaker and they will continue to grow by adding more than 750 workers for the new project.

The purpose of this new development is to revamp the Lexus name and Toyota believes American production will increase the value of the vehicles. They also intend to make their models more like performance or sport cars in order to compete with popular, highly-rated European cars.
