Lalabu was created to help people nurture their babies while giving back to the community. When Keri and Brian first went to the country of Burkina Faso in West Africa they met Lalabu, a working mother who had 7 children to take care of, including newborn twins. She showed Keri how she easily wrapped the newborns to her body so her hands were free, and Keri knew that she would adopt this method when she had children of her own.

Her husband was excited to bring this baby wear idea back to the U.S. However, Brian’s goal was different than most beginning small start up companies. He was dedicated to giving back to those that made their business possible, women like Lalabu. The couple decided to name the company after her and also coin a new One Day One Dollar giving model. Through this program the company gives one dollar of every sale back to women in Africa. Keri and Brian then received a major investment from Plywood People, a group dedicated to helping start-up companies who create solutions to world issues. By giving back to these women, Lalabu gives a helping hand to women seeking to start their own businesses in impoverished communities.

Lalabu has two signature products, the Soothe shirt, and the Bambu bib. The soothe shirt is modeled after the original baby wearing apparatus Keri saw in Burkina Faso. It is a trendy sleeveless top that serves not only as a baby carrier, but also has a built-in nursing bra.  The pouch calms and soothes newborns as you carry them next to your heart, and is a simple way to transport and cuddle your baby. With the built-in nursing bra, you can have the modest coverage needed to nurse in public with ease. The shirt really is made for what Lalabu calls “simple babying.” They combine everything you need in a top that works in all seasons so you can be a confident and prepared mom!

All Lalabu products are made in the USA. The Bambu bib specifically is handmade by legal refugees from other countries, providing them jobs that can help them get on their feet here in the U.S. This product does so much not only for new moms and babies, but also for mothers all over the world through their amazing charity work. And by making the products in the U.S., they’re also helping the economy and creating jobs. Lalabu is simple babying with a great message and amazing contributions for the U.S. and the world!
