Toyota Operations in America

Since its origin in Japan, Toyota has expanded to one of their homes away from home, the United States. In 1984 Toyota began their production in the U.S., joining with General Motors to create the New United Motor Manufacturing Inc, or NUMMI. From humble beginnings in an old General Motors facility, Toyota began manufacturing their products in Fremont, California.

With the demand for more vehicles came a demand for more production, which in turn pushed Toyota to begin manufacturing even more in the U.S., and in 2007 they produced an updated version of the Tundra. This new updated vehicle was manufactured in two American factories, one in Texas and the other in Indiana, and was awarded “Truck of the Year” in 2007 by Motor Trend.

One of their most successful vehicles, the Toyota Prius, also began its production here in the United States. Along with the Toyota Highlander, built in Princeton, Indiana.
Toyota has provided close to 100,000 jobs for U.S. citizens, investing billions of dollars into local economies, and donating nearly $700 million to non-profit organizations. It’s safe to say they are helping America grow in the right direction.
