Pharmacist Dr. Smith ran a small drug store in Woodsboro, Maryland, and was requested by many friends and family to produce a family salve that they could use for minor skin irritations.

Faced with this challenge, Dr. Smith made a product named “Balsam of Rosebuds” which later was renamed “Rosebud Salve”. As its popularity grew locally, Dr. Smith made the decision to advertise his products in country tabloids, and within a few years he curated, at the time, one of the most unique mail-order businesses in the United States.

With his newly growing success, Dr. Smith bought the old Smith Hotel across the street from his drug store, and moved his business into the building which has served as the home of Rosebud products for now over 100 years.

The salve that started it all is still their most popular item today, and can be used as an eye makeup remover, cuticle softener, hair frizz controller and more. From door to door sales to mailing catalogues, the Rosebud company and building have stood the test of time by providing quality products at a reasonable price for over 100 years.
